Portraits not Pictures

“It’s one thing to take a picture of what a person looks like, it’s another thing to take a portrait of who they are.”  ~ Paul Caponigro

I believe that captivating portraits are ones that capture inner glow. It’s the person that everyone becomes when they don’t believe that the camera is on them. Perhaps this is why we use the word photogenic – literally, “produced or caused by light”.

It is my responsibility, as the photographer, to create an atmosphere that allows my subject (both big & small), the freedom to be who they truly are – to encourage them to experience real moments, genuine expressions, eyes that light up in true, heartfelt joy. To be openly silly, intimate & vulnerable…..regardless of the camera!

A picture is of somebody, a portrait is about somebody.
A picture is flat & lifeless, a portrait has a voice.
A picture captures physical attributes, a portrait captures the soul.
