The Best Time To Book A Newborn Photoshoot

It’s all so new

I don’t think anyone can fully prepare you for the first few weeks at home with your adorable new little human! Anyone who has had a baby will agree that this is a time of beautiful chaos: so many firsts… so many decisions… so little sleep! So the decision when to book a newborn photoshoot is not always a priority

Those first few weeks seem to fly by in a blur as you adjust to life as a new parent & it may not be until it is too late that you realise your baby has changed so much already.

Leave the house!

It’s not easy to leave the house with a newborn, especially in the first couple weeks. But a newborn photo shoot is something you will always be grateful you left the house for – it is literally an investment for life – a gift for generations to come!

We do everything we can to ensure that it is a memorable & beautiful experience for you. When you are not involved in the images, we encourage you to put your feet up & relax, maybe even take a much needed little nap or enjoy one of my hubby’s “famous” cappuccinos….!

You can do it

If you are struggling to make a decision on a newborn shoot, I would encourage you to keep your eyes on the end goal – beautiful images to help you remember every detail & emotion of this precious time in your life, forever! 3 hours & it’s done…moments converted into memories, forever!

4 Common newborn photoshoot questions

1.  When should I book my newborn photoshoot?

I recommend to my pregnant moms that they book their newborn shoot around their 20 week scan. I find that this is a key milestone to use as a reminder for parents.

If you decide to leave booking until after your little one arrives, it is not an ideal time: they will consume your time 24/7, you will likely be sleep deprived & organising anything, let alone a photoshoot, will probably be a little challenging!

2.  What happens if my baby arrives early/late?

As no-one can fully predict the date that a baby decides to make its entrance into the world, we book a potential date & adjust the date as you go along. As soon as you have had your baby, you let me know & we confirm a date & time that suits you best.

3.  How old should my baby be on the day of the shoot?

Newborn shoots are best done when your baby is between 7 and 14 days. At this stage they are typically very sleepy & love being curled up into those sweet newborn poses that everyone loves.

That said, if your little one is older than 14 days, please don’t hold back – while the images may be slightly different, they will be just as beautiful. ( I have done many 3 and even 4 week old shoots with great success)

4.  How long is a newborn shoot?

Newborn sessions are directed by the baby – your baby’s comfort, safety & peace is our highest priority. We allow time for as many feeding, changing & soothing breaks as necessary, and so a newborn shoot can take up to 3 hours. We encourage you to take the opportunity to have some much needed rest & let us take care of your little one until they need you.

Investment for life

Investing in a newborn shoot will be one of the greatest investments you will ever make. The images you receive will be amongst the most treasured of your possessions for many generations to come!
